Home is where the military sends you!

This phrase epitomizes the lifestyle of a military wife. In my case, the Army determines where we’ll live. Transforming bland, sterile quarters into “home sweet home” every couple years can be a real challenge, especially on a military salary. A little money and creativity can go along way. For me, it’s worth the effort and I view decorating as a quality of life investment.

Wherever we go, I keep this sign prominently displayed, with family pictures propped up nearby. It reminds me that home really is where the heart is. I love putting our signature on government housing. We move a lot! Even though the environment may be new and strange, it’s important for me to create a place where my family feels happy, secure, and a sense of belonging and love.

Do you know how much your husband really makes?

I hear wives complaining all the time about how little their husbands earn, compared to their civilian counterparts. I gripe too. I believe our troops deserve better pay. However, you need to look past the LES and take into consideration the total value of the military compensation package. We do get a lot of non-cash perks like FREE health care, FREE legal services, FREE financial counseling services, and FREE special needs services. We also get great tax breaks. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the average active duty service member receives a compensations package worth almost $100,000! Take advantage of the benefits, they add up fast!
