Be Proud!

07.jpg

This is for the young women that are waking up at 6
a.m. every morning, laying out clothes and packing
three lunches for those small precious children that
they have been left alone to care for.

This is for the pregnant Army wife wondering if her
husband will make it home in time to watch their
miracle happen.

This is for the childless Army wife, living in a town
or on a base alone where she is a complete stranger to
her surroundings.

This is for the women that feel like a third leg when
they go out with their friends and their husbands.

This is for the Army wife that canceled all her plans
to wait by the phone, and even though the phone broke
up and cut off every time you spoke to him, you waited
anyway.

The National Military Family Association recognizes that kids serve too!

momc.jpg

Military children are special. They make great sacrifices day in and day out as they support and provide motivation to the military parent who has chosen to serve. Today’s operations tempo, back-to-back deployments, longer hours for the non-deployed service member all point to one thing: less quality time spent with the military parent. During deployments, it is especially important that military children and their parents have access to support and information resources and programs. In this section, you will find resources and publications that focus on the special needs children have when a parent is deployed. Creating opportunities for the parent-child relationship to stay intact and grow, especially during a deployment, is critical. We hope this section allows you to find and utilize those programs and initiatives that meet your family’s needs and reduce the stress and challenges of being a military child.

The Army turned 233 years old on June 14th, 2008.

armystrong4cposa0abd6jl1.jpg

Two hundred and thirty-three years ago, the United States Army was established to defend our Nation. From the Revolutionary War to the Global War on Terror, our Soldiers remain Army Strong with a deep commitment to our core values and beliefs. This 233rd birthday commemorates America’s Army – Soldiers, Families and Civilians – who are achieving a level of excellence that is truly Army Strong both here and abroad. Their willingness to sacrifice to build a better future for others and to preserve our way of life is without a doubt, the Strength of our Nation.

As part of a Secretary of the Army-directed initiative to include Army children in the service’s 233rd birthday celebration, Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command’s Child Youth Services developed a new book titled “Happy Birthday U.S. Army!”  The simple book, less than 25 pages, is heavy on pictures, graphics and Army history.

Savings, Savings, Savings!

Is the trip to the commissary really worth it?

deca1.jpg

You bet it is! On average, shopping at DeCA saves over 30%*!

Single: $1,029
Married Couple: $1,885
Married w/ 1 child: $2,309
Married w/ 2 children: $2,957

*Annual savings derived from cost-of-food figures from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Center for Food Nutrition Policy and Promotion & figures from DaCA’s price comparison study, which compares commissary prices with those of local supermarkets, major grocery storechains, and supercenters.

Increase your savings even more by using coupons!

According to the annual commissary market basket survey, the highest commissary savings are on meat and produce - 36 to 40 percent - but major savings over retail can be found in all departments. Savings are even greater in high-cost areas.
The commissaries, with nearly 280 locations worldwide, provide groceries to military personnel, retirees, Guard and Reserve members, and their families. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones.
