Did you know that there are over 1 million American children with at least one parent serving active duty in the United States military?

Please take a moment during the month of April to remember our U.S. troops. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers and think of their children, for they too serve and sacrifice for their country.
Be sure to check with your nearest military installation for specially planned activities and events for kids.
I am a Military Brat
My hometown is nowhere, my friends are everywhere.
I grew up with the knowledge that home is where the heart is
and the family….
Mobility is my way of life.
Some would wonder about roots, yet they are as deep and strong
as the mighty oak. I sink them quickly, absorbing all an area offers
and hopefully, giving enrichment in return.
Travel has taught me to be open.
Shaking hands with the universe, I find brotherhood in all men.
Farewells are never easy.
Yet, even in sorrow comes strength and ability to face tomorrow
with anticipation….if when we leave one place,
I feel that half my world is left behind. I also know that
the other half is waiting to be met.
Friendships are formed in hours and kept for decades.
I will never grow up with someone, but I will mature with many.
Be it inevitable that paths part, there is constant hope
that they will meet again.
Love of country, respect and pride
fill my being when Old Glory passes in review.
When I stand to honor that flag, so also do I stand in honor of all
soldiers, and most especially, to the parents whose life created mine
Because of this, I have shared in the rich heritage of Military life.

Six months ago we launched the Military/Civilian Wife Swap page with the simple concept that military wives would post what they need or what they wish for, and civilian wives would grant that need or wish.
The turnout has been hugely successful! As usual, our wives have come through to help each other.
- A civilian wife purchased a new crib mattress for a young Army wife in New York who needed one for her baby.
- A navy wife in California was in need of a gently used stroller. A civilian wife read her post, and purchased a brand NEW Graco travel system and sent it to her!
- Courtney in Virginia is seeking books for the United Through Reading program her husband’s ship is participating in. This program is designed to keep military service members in touch with their children through reading. Several civilian families have graciously donated books.
- Lacey in New York needed some clothing and baby gear for her premature baby. A civilian wife stepped forward and sent her a $300 gift card to Target!
- Because of the colder weather, several Army wives were in need of infant/toddler snowsuits. Civilian wives read the posts and assisted in keeping the children warm!
- Angela Perez, former Army wife turned civilian wife, contacted us to let us know that if there are any military wives in south Florida in need of assistance, she is willing to help personally and through her SAHM support group that she leads in the area.
In the spirit of giving, you have evoked joy and gratitude in the hearts of many military wives and their familes.
We are grateful for your continued support and generosity.

Recently my neighbor tied a large yellow ribbon around the tree in her front yard. It was a beautiful sign of loyalty she has for her daughter who was deployed. Over the years, the yellow ribbon has become a renowned symbol of the devotion we have to our family members serving away from home in the military.
Did you ever wonder where this tradition came from? Yellow is the official color of the cavalry branch of the U.S. Army, used in insignia, etc., and originally exemplified in Hollywood movies by the yellow neckerchiefs supposed to be worn in the 19th Century by cavalry soldiers. In the United States military, the symbol of the yellow ribbon is used in a popular marching song. The first version copyrighted was the 1917 version by George A. Norton, which he titled ‘Round Her Neck She Wears a Yeller Ribbon (For Her Lover Who Is Fur, Fur Away). While he tells in the song about the love between Susie Simpkins and her soldier lover Silas Hubbard, his chorus goes:‘Round her neck she wears a yeller ribbon,
She wears it in winter and the summer so they say,
If you ask her “Why the decoration?”
She’ll say “It’s fur my lover who is fur, fur away.
FT. Campbell, 1979, the Avionics Platoon came up with having the women wear the Yellow Ribbons
at first around their wrist, then attached to their cars. November 4, 1979, Iranian revolutionaries seized the U.S. embassy in Tehran and held
Ambassador Bruce Laingen and the rest of the embassy staff hostage. This inspired a lady to tie the Yellow Ribbon around a tree. People started to follow her lead and continued to tie yellow ribbons around everything they could. This resulted in the manufacturing of yellow ribbon pins and bumper stickers. By 1980, the whole world was aware of yellow-ribbon support.
Thousands of men and woman are putting their lives on the line every day around the world to defend our freedom. Show your support by displaying the yellow ribbon.
